Kaleidoscope Free Speech Zone is a neighborhood jewel. An arts and education center devoted to free expression, Kaleidoscope hosts music, film and arts events nearly every night of the week. It recently became a nonprofit, and is trying hard to keep providing the community with a venue for people to tap into local and international artists of all types.
Refreshments are usually available on a donation basis. Admission is kept at a minimum, and artists are sought out for their unique offerings (Tuvan throat singers, Burmese poets, contact improv, etc).
Kaleidoscope is a community resource that makes the arts more accessible to the Mission. Many events are free (Kaleidoscope doesn’t charge anyone to perform, but will split door proceeds), and others are really affordable. If you don’t have anything to do on a given night and want to have your mind expanded and/or blown (seriously, Tuvan throat singers!), check out whatever is happening at Kaleidoscope (calendar is here)
