Explorist International is a crazy cool new and used record store. They feature obscure but fascinating sounds from all over the world, like Ghanaian funk from the 70’s, Cambodian rock from the 60’s, pizza-related punk rock, etc. The genres Explorist specializes in are jazz, folk, blues, international and experimental. If you walk in and tell Chris what you’re into, he’ll be happy to set you up with some shit that’s right up your alley.
The Explorist blog lays down funky tracks that accompany posters, pics, old school DJ equipment and more. Explorist also has zines, books, posters, and lots of other accoutrements at the intersection of music, media, politics and art. The design is clean, and the small space means that exploring Explorist (get it?) isn’t overwhelming. Explorist always has something interesting on the turntable. Stop in some day when you’re not in a rush and lose yourself for an hour or two.
