What is the timebank?
The SF Bay Area Community Exchange (BACE) timebank is a market for goods and services that uses a person’s time as the currency instead of money. For every hour you spend doing something for someone in your community, you earn one hour to use to have someone do something for you. It is an alternative way to give and receive resources. It’s that simple.
What can I get from the timebank?
Gardening, music lessons, dog walking, child care, eggs, transportation, computer help, physical labor, resume coaching, tax help, massages and more!
How do I participate?
Go to the timebank website, create a profile, and start posting offers of your skills and requests for the skills of others. Look at requests for things you can do and contact those people with offers to help. They’ll do the same, and you’ll be on your way.
What does this have to do with Live Local?
The Mission is a diverse neighborhood, home to different kinds of people with a variety of skills. Every month, Live Local will host a timebank party at the Mission Community Market for interested people to meet up and figure out how they can help each other out.
Live Local has no financial interest in the timebank or vice versa. We’re just big fans. Sign up and start exchanging today. **Update** I’m now a Timebank board member. I still receive no compensation for my board membership except for a NoBAWC membership card.
How are different people’s skills valued?
Everyone’s time is valued equally, at least in the happy timebank world.
